HIMSS 23 – Takeaways

The crowd was back at HIMSS!

The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) promotes the best use of information and management systems in healthcare. In addition to providing thought leadership, the organization promotes professional and workforce development and public policy.

There were a lot of familiar faces, as well as some new friends that we met at the show. There is an abundance of new technology being introduced to improve patient care and improve healthcare.

Cybersecurity
Artificial Intelligence
Machine Learning

Estenda Takeaways

  1. Cyber security There was a great deal of conversation about securing the hospital; ecosystems, but there appeared to be a lack in the medical device industry. The collective agreement was a lack of standardization for the industry. This is something we at Estenda have been advocating for in all we do for our partners.

  2. AI was a hot topic again just like VIVE. The crowds were standing room only at all the sessions! There were a lot of nervous people wondering about what was coming. We spoke with a few people who were concerned. Our simple response seemed to calm them. We stated that once technology advancements start, there is no way to stop it. The only thing to do is find the right provider who can help put in the right checks and balances to ensure a smooth adoption of the technology.

  3. AI and ML. We attended additional sessions that discussed the partnership of #AI and #ML. The discussion was about using the technology to better predict the possibility of a chronic condition arising in an individual or a community. We are a big fan of predictive medicine over reactive medicine. It will save numerous lives, improve quality of care and reduce overall costs of care.

Though advances in technology are on the rise, healthcare leaders at HIMSS agreed that people must remain at the center of every solution. Ultimately, all advances in #digitalhealth are for the better health of our fellow humans!

Estenda is proud of our continued contributions in custom software development to the digital health industry – as we continue on our mission to improve the health and well-being of our fellow humans!
