Advancing Responsible AI: The CHAI Applied Model Card
The Coalition for Healthcare AI (CHAI) has introduced the CHAI Applied Model Card, a comprehensive resource designed to guide the development and deployment of AI-driven solutions in healthcare. This model card provides detailed documentation on operational AI systems, including models, infrastructure, and their integration into clinical workflows. It serves as a practical tool for meeting the requirements outlined in the Health Data, Technology, and Interoperability: Certification Program Updates (HTI-1) proposed rule for predictive decision-support interventions (DSIs).
In alignment with CHAI’s five principles of responsible AI—Transparency, Safety, Security & Privacy, Fairness & Bias, and Usefulness—the CHAI Applied Model Card offers structured guidance to promote compliance and trustworthiness in AI applications. The draft release includes detailed instructions, real-world examples, and a customizable template for testing and validation. By embedding these practices into healthcare workflows, the CHAI Applied Model Card plays a pivotal role in fostering responsible AI adoption and advancing clinical decision-making.
