On October 31, 2024, ChatGPT introduced a new search capability, allowing users to access real-time answers complete with linked sources—integrating features that previously required a separate search engine. This addition brings current events, sports scores, weather updates, and financial data directly into the ChatGPT environment, enhancing the value of conversational AI with timely, verified information.

The feature is available immediately to all ChatGPT Plus and Team users, with Enterprise and Edu accounts following soon and a gradual rollout planned for Free users in the coming months. By allowing users to access information directly in chat, OpenAI aims to make it easier to get comprehensive, high-quality answers without switching between platforms.
