OpenAI Secures Record-Breaking $6.6 Billion Funding Round
OpenAI announced the successful completion of its long-awaited funding round, raising an unprecedented $6.6 billion, making it the largest venture capital deal ever recorded, with a valuation of $157 billion. This funding signals a significant transition as OpenAI plans to shift to a for-profit structure, allowing investors to reclaim their investments if the changes are not fully implemented within two years, as reported by Axios.
The funding round was spearheaded by Joshua Kushner’s Thrive Capital, with participation from heavyweights like Microsoft, Nvidia, SoftBank, Khosla Ventures, Altimeter Capital, Fidelity, Tiger Global, and MGX. Notably absent from this investment round is Apple, which had been in discussions to invest but ultimately decided against it. This deal surpasses the earlier $6 billion raised by Elon Musk’s xAI this year.
